Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings for Kids
Once your child reaches the age of 2-3, they should start attending checkups and cleanings twice a year just like you. Initially, these appointments will just consist of a brief exam, and we’ll help teach you and your child how to take care of their growing smile. As time goes on, cleanings will become part of the routine, and we’ll make sure your child has all the knowledge they need to preserve and protect their teeth even when you aren’t around.
Dental Sealants
The back teeth are particularly susceptible to developing cavities in children because they can be difficult to reach while brushing, plus their rough surfaces easily trap plaque and bacteria. Fortunately, we can protect them using dental sealants. A thin, clear layer of dental plastic is painted over these teeth, and it essentially shields the enamel from anything that could do it harm. They take minutes to apply and can easily last for 10 years or more.
Fluoride Treatments
In addition to using a fluoridated toothpaste at home, every child should receive at least 2 fluoride treatments each year. To make things nice and easy, we can provide this service at their regular checkups and cleanings. After we’ve removed plaque from their teeth, we will apply a fluoride gel that is multiple times stronger than any store bought product. This will fortify their enamel and dramatically lower their risk of developing cavities between appointments.
Tooth-Colored Fillings
Should your child develop a cavity, you can trust the team at Times Square Family Dental to do 2 things. 1, we won’t guilt trip you, and 2, we’ll provide your child with a filling that will completely blend into their smile. Tooth-colored fillings are made of a composite resin and can be shaded to match the surrounding enamel so the restoration can’t be seen whenever a child speaks, eats, or laughs.
Athletic Mouthguards
Oral injuries are always a risk in any sport, but you can keep your child’s teeth, gums, and lips safe with the use of a protective mouthguard. Rather than giving them some bulky, one-size-fits-all appliance that they will inevitably “lose” or “forget,” we can provide them with a custom-made guard that is more comfortable and delivers higher-quality protection. Our guards are designed so well that our young athletes often forget they are wearing them while playing!
